Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?
I am an avid romance reader and have been for about thirty years. So when I decided to try my hand at writing it was only natural to write what I loved to read.
What did you find most useful in learning to write? What was least useful or most destructive?
The thing I found most useful in learning to write was to just write. You’ll never improve if you don’t sit in the chair and simply do it. I’m always learning with each new book. I’ve also learned a lot from the amazing editors I’ve worked with over the years. I’m always trying to get better at my craft.
The least useful is taking criticism personally. Not everyone is going to like what you write and that’s okay. You can’t take it to heart. And you also can’t be so attached to what you’ve written that you won’t edit your work.
What do you like to read in your free time?
Romance, of course.
What do your plans for future projects include?
Once I finish the next book in my Blood of the Drakon series, I have no idea what I’m going to write. The possibilities are endless. I love the idea of starting a new series, most likely it will be a paranormal romance. Right now, I’m at the stage of simply letting ideas rattle around in my brain. It can get crowded up there.
FUN STUFF
Do you have any strange writing habits?
No strange habits. Or at least they’re not strange to me. I write on a desktop computer in the corner of my living room. It’s not hooked up to the internet, so when I sit there all I do is write. I write first thing in the morning and need quiet to hear the voices of my characters.
How many donuts are you capable of eating in one sitting?
Hmm…I have no idea. The most I’ve ever eaten at a time is one.
What is your go-to method for getting rid of hiccups?
Take tiny sips of water while continually swallowing. It works.
If I gave you a pencil and piece of paper and told you to draw something funny, what would you draw?
Anything I drew would be funny because I’m really not much of an artist. I can do stick figures and flowers, but that’s about it.
Do you have a favorite Girl Scout Cookie?
I love the traditional cookies, the package that is half chocolate and half vanilla.
How many times does it take for you to listen to a song that you love before you actually hate it instead?
Hasn’t happened yet.
Finally, and this one is important, so please pay attention What do you think cats dream about?
World domination.
This or That?
Dogs or Cats? Dogs
Tea or Coffee? Tea
Winter or Summer? Summer
Chocolate or Vanilla? Vanilla
Vintage or New? Vintage
About Drakon’s Past:
Constance Owens has a gift for finding unique items in the most unlikely places, which comes in handy since she buys and sells artifacts and antiques for a living. When she purchases a set of four dragon statues, she has no idea just how unique they are, or that finding them will thrust her into a world of secret societies, men who think nothing of kidnapping and murder to get what they want, and dragon shifters.
Nic hasn’t survived for four thousand years by letting his guard down, and he doesn’t trust anyone except his drakon brothers. The loneliness haunting him has been getting worse since all his brothers have found their mates. And when he finds the woman his drakon recognizes instantly as his fated mate, he doubts he’ll ever have what his brothers have, because it seems she’s involved with the secret society of hunters who have been hunting and capturing his kind for hundreds of years.
N.J. Walters is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author who has always been a voracious reader, and now she spends her days writing novels of her own.
Vampires, werewolves, dragons, time-travelers, seductive handymen, and next-door neighbors with smoldering good looks—all vie for her attention. It’s a tough life, but someone’s got to live it.
